OBD codes reset themselves fairly quickly

I'm surprised and happy to report my VW clears codes quickly. In this comment from a few months ago I mentioned P0087 and P0087 error codes appearing. Those still happen every so often, maybe once every two months. Seldom, on long highway entrance pulls at WOT up through 4th gear, it’ll set a Check ...

Here's the report. Explanation of results: https://www.blackstone-labs.com/report-explanation.php

I'm going to sit down tonight and go through these results to get an idea of how good or bad they are.

Tail out in snow!

Based on my limited observations in wet, I thought the Alltrack might act a bit RWD-ish in low traction conditions. I was right. I got some driving in today on snowy roads, the first real snow of the year here in Denver. In throttle-on around corners my Alltrack oversteers , which is wonderful :shoc...

Re: Engine oil very dirty after 6 months and 5200 miles

Blackstone sent me an email this morning that they got it. I was a little concerned... there's no place to write a return address, so if it got rejected somewhere along the line by a USPS clerk because of [whatever reason*], I'd never hear from Blackstone. When you put something in the mail at a USP...

Re: Engine oil very dirty after 6 months and 5200 miles

getting-oil-sample-from-engine-blackstone - 1.jpg So my siphon was dirty. Ok. Clean with water. Ok. But then since I wanted to use it right away, wouldn't the residual drops in it introduce a "contaminant" in testing? Uh oh. So I blew out the drops with canned air. getting-oil-sample-from...

Re: Engine oil very dirty after 6 months and 5200 miles

Ooops, a little late on getting that out the door, but better late than never. I took it to a USPS yesterday to send it to Blackstone, and the clerk was a little hesitant because the cap you can just unscrew... obviously not the best solution by Blackstone to sending things to them. Their notes -- I...

Re: Engine oil very dirty after 6 months and 5200 miles

I ordered and received a oil testing kit from Blackstone Labs. I'll send it in on Friday or Saturday. 1 (1).jpg From FCP's site: Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis by Tim Wong Normally, if you suspect your engine is having some serious issues, the easiest way to figure out what is wrong is to take your ca...

Engine oil very dirty after 6 months and 5200 miles

My Alltrack's engine oil is done, kaput, after just 6 months, as I've detailed in 2017 Golf Alltrack 1.8 – Tracking Engine Oil Color in Photos . Perhaps that title isn't as strong as it should be. Whatever the case, take a look: http://www.alltrackworld.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/golf-alltrac...

Figured it out. The "pull" comes when it's to the right. It has nothing to do with going left.

I do these three things for my Alltrack

  • I never go past 3k RPM until oil temp is > 180
  • 4/5 times I fill her up with Shell premium — 5/5 times premium
  • I never take it to car washes
No automatic car washes.
