early Eurovan series/parallel fan switch

Post by Da Tow'd »

Hi Gang,
10/1991 Eurovan 5 cyl gas auto
My radiator fans don't come on at all
I jumped the wires on the thermo switch on the top right side of the radiator and the fans run. So Replaced the thermo switch still no go.
checked the two fuses near battery above the LF headlight they were OK.
Looking at some youtubes and they show resistors - I removed a screw on panel below headlight and I don't see any resistors bolted to the radiator support/headlight frame on the left front
I looked in the Bentley wiring diagrams and see a series/parallel fan switch. I'm thinking the series/parallel is mounted ahead of the battery.
No relays or resistors as far as I can see with the fans maybe I'm looking in the wrong area
Anybody have any experience with the series/parallel switch
thanks
Hank

Today I pulled new thermo switch out and with the wires hooked up I heated the thermo switch with a propane soldering torch and the fans came on at low speed @85*C and the high speed fans came on at 99*C . I read the temperature with a IR heat gun
so all is good.
cheers
Hank
